Greetings Attic Fans! HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN THE MUSIC ROOM THIS WEEK:
 |
SATURDAY, JULY 5th ASYLYM STREET SPANKERS Show time: 8:00 p.m. / Doors open: 6:30 p.m. Individual tickets: $20 / Tables: $100
The ASYLUM STREET SPANKERS were founded 14 years ago at a booze and hallucinogen-fueled party at the Dabbs Hotel along the river in Llano, Texas. To this day, they stand as one of America's most distinctive groups. Defiantly acoustic, fiercely independent and absurdly good, the Spankers have been led by founders Christina Marrs and Wammo from being a country-blues revival act playing happy hours in Austin, through nearly 40 musicians, endless touring and constant evolution to being an internationally reknowned underground institution. Fueled by an ethos born of their punk roots, Marrs and Wammo have built their lives around making unique music that surprises and entertains. Rolling Stone calls their Americana funk, "...inspired, lunatic brilliance!" Listen:

SUNDAY, JULY 6th CLAIRE & BAIN'S MAPLE YUM YUM / WAYNE FISHELL Show time: 7:30 p.m. / Doors open: 6:30 p.m. Individual advanced tickets: $8 / At the door: $10 / Tables: $40
CLAIRE & BAIN'S MAPLE YUM YUM is 1/2 Bain Mattox and 1/2 Claire Campbell. Before they both embarked on their individual successful musical projects, they performed as the Yum Yum's...once winning one of our Open Mic Shootouts! Bain is an artist, songwriter, and multi-instrumentalist. During the course of the show, expect him to play everything from the accordion, mandolin, banjo, guitar, & a variety of oddly tuned pawn-shop instruments. His music has been featured on MTV and XMRadio. The Creative Loafing has named him Best Singer/Songwriter and Best Instrumentalist. Claire Campbell is of the award-winning Athen's band Hope For Agoldensummer. The music she creates is truly an organic experience. Typical instrumentation includes the traditional guitars and piano, but branches out quickly to cello, xylophone, singing saw, coke bottles, cheese graters, accordion, and eclectic percussion. Listen:
Decatur's own WAYNE FISHELL opens tonight's show. Southeast Performer Magazine notes his current project, Optimistically Hopeless" as, "24-carat pop. The real stars of this album are the lyrics--showing how universal our human condition is while letting the listener get to hear some good music in the process." His music is an eclectic blend of folk rock. Listen:
