Garth Brooks, Joan Baez, David Wilcox, Art Garfunkel, Tom Kimmel, Dar Williams, and Claire Lynch (among others) have all covered his songs. You can listen to an interesting podcast interview with him under the Podcast page of our website. He has recently released his newest CD entitled "That Kind of Love." He is performing tonight with his daughter GRACE PETTIS (who is already earning national recognition, with her 2009 win at the Mountain Stage NewSong Songwriting Competition and was also awarded NewSong's 'best song' award for her 'Nine to Five Girl') and his son GEORGE PETTIS. | | Saturday, February 13th THE BRILLIANT INVENTIONS & MIKE WILLIS Show time: 8:00 pm / Doors open: 6:30 pm General admission advanced tickets: $10 General admission & meal combo: $25 At the door: $13 Table of 4 reserved seats: $50 | | THE BRILLIANT INVENTIONS is a duo made up of Elliot Bronson and Josh Lamkin. Their songs have crisply articulated storylines and meaty chorus hooks. In less than a year they won Eddie's Attic bi-annual Open Mic Shootout, were voted Best New Local Music Act by the Atlanta Creative Loafing Readers Poll, and were signed by Russell Carter Management (Indigo Girls, Shawn Mullins). It's catchy, witty, acoustic pop that fans of Ben Folds Five and Fountains of Wayne will enjoy. Listen: | | Although originally from Atlanta, MIKE WILLIS now resides in Nashville. He has opened for and/or shared the stage with a range of acts including Sugarland, Darryl Worley, John Mayer, Shawn Mullins, Danielle Peck, Ronnie Milsap and many more. Last year he played at the Key West Songwriters festival and the Tin Pan South Songwriters Festival in Nashville. In November 2008 he was honored to receive the Leon Brettler ASCAP foundation award for being outstanding songwriter-performer, as well as winning the country category of the International Songwriters Competition with his autobiographical ballad “Made For You”. | | | NIGHT CAP: BEFORE THE SOLSTICE & NEW TRAINERS WITH CHINESE TONGUES Show time: Midnight / Doors open: 11:30 pm General admission tickets: $5 | | BEFORE THE SOLSTICE is the kind of band that penetrates the subconscious and challenges our listless dissonance. Their songs rouse that deep-seated facet of our being and provide an outlet for that which has perhaps been asleep or unable to associate with the outside world or hasn't been able to find the words. Whether the music invokes inspiration, anger, connection or fear, Before the Solstice will no doubt command the attention of your most personal self. Their style is hard to define straightforwardly, since each song carries its own essence. But, the overall feel of Before the Solstice can be summed up as melodic progressive rock with the ability to entrance, make you dance, or punch a hole in the wall! They call it Quantum Rock. Listen: | | | NEW TRAINERS WITH CHINESE TONGUES was born out of the ashes of the regional alt-rock touring act Koivu, when members Andrew Housley (voice, guitar, keyboard & sample), James Buchheit (guitars & keyboards) and Frank Perisino (drum, percussion, bass guitar & guitar) began to expand their musical palate, and found their sound in 2009. Focusing their attentions on mood, texture and experimental atmospheric soundscapes rather than being constrained to rigid song structure has allowed them to create a new sound fans have described as ahead of their time. New Trainers With Chinese Tongues is currently recording new material, aiming for a late spring 2010 EP release. | | | |

| | Sunday, February 14th Show time: 7:30 pm / Doors open: 6:30 pm General admission advanced tickets: $15 General admission & meal combo: $30 At the door: $18 Table of 4 reserved seats: $75 | | In Hollywood, they say it takes smart actors to play stupid characters, and nice guys to play nasty villains. RONNY COX is the poster-boy for the latter point. He played slithery corporate snakes in "RoboCop" and "Total Recall;" but as a singer-songwriter, he is a study in easygoing amiability and unforced charisma. He charms crowds with self-teasing humor, tart progressive insight, and a lulling Southwestern folk sound. His repertoire is a smart mix of witty ditties, bluesy swing tunes, heart-on-sleeve romances, and real-life anthems. He has appeared The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, NPR, & more! | | Among acoustic guitarists, South Carolinian JACK WILLIAMS is near-legendary. Having avoided the compromises of the commercial music industry during his 50+ year professional career, he has always toured "under the radar." He is immersed in the acoustic folk scene, making appearances at events like Kerrville Folk Festival, SummerFest, etc. Kevin Oliver of No Depression Magazine said, "...a musical style that's equal parts folk storytelling and Tin Pan Alley songcraft, delivered with the impassioned soul of an old blues singer." As a guitarist, he accompanied Tom Paxton, Peter Yarrow, Mickey Newbury and Harry Nilsson. Invited onstage by Arlo Guthrie to sing a song, he then joined the group for the concert encores. He produced all of his own recordings plus CDs by Mickey Newbury, Eric Schwartz, Carla Ulbrich, The Malvinas, and Ronny Cox. As another credit to his guitar skills, Peter Yarrow (of Peter, Paul and Mary) called Jack "The best guitar-player I've ever heard." Listen: | | | |

| | Monday, February 15th Show time: 9:00 pm / Doors open: 8:30 pm General admission advanced tickets: $10 General admission & meal combo: $25 At the door: $13 Table of 4 reserved seats: $50 | | The critically acclaimed world-music duo known as DROMEDARY is known for their exciting live shows and artful compositions. In the last two years, these young musicians have been featured on National Public Radio's All Things Considered, toured the East and West Coasts heavily, released 2 albums, and have composed music for 3 films (including the 2004 Sundance Film Festival's "Dirty Work" co-produced by Edward Norton). | | North Carolina's JONATHAN BYRD is an extraordinary contemporary folk singer/songwriter and the winner of the 2003 Kerrville New Folk Competition. His latest CD ("The Sea and Sky") features the acclaimed duo Dromedary. Performing Songwriter magazine once wrote, "Jonathan Byrd doesn’t sing songs; he sings truth." Jonathan Byrd, Rob McMaken, and Andrew Reissiger are have joined forces and releasing an album together entiteld, "The Sea and the Sky." They met while playing at the same coffee shop in 2001; yet, despite the fact that Dromedary and Jonathan's music at that time were classified into quite different genres ("world/folk" and "roots/americana," respectively), they now play double-bill shows together. | | Tuesday, February 16th Show time: 7:30 pm / Doors open: 7:00 pm General admission advanced tickets: $5 Table of 4 reserved seats: $25 | | For 17 + years, we have been very proud of our OPEN MIC and the associated shootouts. We find ourselves booked out on these further than a comfort zone, it's a 6 month wait for locals! the booking calendar has given us a chance the second week of June to play a bit of "catch-up", especially with our locals that enjoy this event. We will have 4 nights of open mic- Monday to Thursday, June 8 to 11. If you are not a songwriter but haven't been to an open mic or shootout, then here's your chance to see why Monday night in the Attic is so special." | | | |

| | Wednesday, February 17th Show time: 8:00 pm / Doors open: 6:30 pm General admission advanced tickets: $10 General admission & meal combo: $25 At the door: $12 Table of 4 reserved seats: $50 | | SCRIBBLIN' JONES began when vocalist Sarah Candler answered a Craigslist ad placed by singer/songwriter-guitarists Cameron Horne and Jimmy T. Harris. The three-part harmony that ensued quickly became the group’s key sonic signature. Bassist, David Tunkel, was soon added to represent the missing clef. Their music is Vocal-Infused SwingGrass, classic bluegrass, swing, folk, and blues locked together in a tasty acoustic marinade that features the group’s stunning vocal harmonies. | | DAN DYER greets his second decade as a musician with a self-titled album. From this soul-revivalist recording, produced out of an old snake-charmer church turned studio on the East side of Austin, emerges a spooky, diaphanous, and bright release drawn from an ever-deepening soul. "It's one thing to claim soul as an influence and quite another to actually put the classic authority of Al Green and Sly Stone to proper use. Dan Dyer sings with an instinctive urgency that incorporates elements of country, blues and soul, tying things together with what's universal in the best of each genre: intensity" writes the Dallas Observer. | | | |

| | Thursday, February 18th Show time: 7:45 pm / Doors open: 6:30 pm General admission advanced tickets: $18 General admission & meal combo: $33 At the door: $20 Table of 4 reserved seats: $90 | | RUTHIE FOSTER is a gifted singer-songwriter from Texas. If you thought you were familiar with Ruthie's work before now, you're in for a surprise--she's got a brand new bag of tricks. She's had a lot of changes in her life over the past few years--both personally and professionally and the new music is her venture in stepping out. She has previously spent time touring with a US Navy band and was once contracted with Atlantic Records. Ruthie's music is an eclectic mixture of blues, soul, roots, country, and R&B. She is currently touring in support of her 2009 Grammy-nominated CD, "The Truth According To Ruthie Foster." Listen: | | TRINA & TOMI of the band Three5Human are currently touring in support of their latest project, "A Swig From The Acid Bottle." Jeff Tomei (Matchbox 20, Smashing Pumpkins, Edwin McCain) produced their record which features guest vocals from both Amy Ray & Emily Saliers (the Indio Girls). Trina is soulful vocalist and Tomi is one of the most sought-after guitar players in popular music by every superstar from OutKast to Eric Clapton. Together they deliver metal-infused funk fused with tons of soulful alternative rock and politically charged lyrics. Listen: | | | |

| | Friday, February 19th Show time: 8:00 pm / Doors open: 6:30 pm General admission advanced tickets: $12 General admission & meal combo: $27 At the door: $15 Table of 4 reserved seats: $60 | | The PACKWAY HANDLE BAND is a bluegrass quintet originating as a part of Music of Athens, GA in 2001. The band is known for tight three- and four-part vocal harmonies, extensive and progressive original material, off-the-wall covers, and energetic performance dynamics around two tightly-spaced condenser mics. Fans of the band include bluegrass traditionalists and those who say they don’t usually like bluegrass. Listen: | | JOHNNY ROQUEMORE AND THE APOSTLES OF BLUEGRASS push the limits of traditional bluegrass. "Up beat music and off beat lyrics" claims the L.A. Times. "A deranged backwoods Santa Claus...the new king of the road" says Creative Loafing. Johnny was named Creative Loafing Magazine critics' choice for "Best Local Singer/Songwriter" in Atlanta.
