THURSDAY, MAY 22nd KATE WALSH / QUINCY COLEMAN / BRANDI SHEARER Show time 8:00 p.m. / Doors: 6:30 p.m. Individual tickets: $12 / Tables: $60
KATE WALSH has gotten revenge on her old neighborhood. In "Talk of the Town," the first single off her second album, "Tim's House," the twenty-four-year-old singer-songwriter blasts the narrow-minded bullies in her native Burnham-on-Crouch, a small fishing village on England's east coast, where she never quite belonged. Kate received her big break when this song was submitted to iTunes and released as their "Free Single Of The Week." Listen:
When Dolly Parton says you have "all the goods, a beautiful voice, such sweet emotion and tenderness...very talented," you know you've made it. And thata??s the perfect description of QUINCY COLEMAN. Think: Elvis Presley's power, Edith Piaf's emotion, and the spirit of Django Reinhardt breaking Challa on a Hawaiian island while shooting a scene for a David Lynch, Quentin Tarantino, Fellini collaboration. Listen:
BRANDI SHEARER grew up in rural Oregon, but spent several years living in Europe. It was overseas that she was exposed to American blues & jazz music. Once moving back to the States, she began working on her own music and released two independent projects. Her latest CD is her label debut, entitled "Close To Dark." Shearer is the first release on the Amoeba Record label. She intertwines rock and alternative music styles, reminiscent of Fiona Apple and Norah Jones. Performing Songwriter Magazine says "her voice is like a 12-year-old Scotch sipped out of a crystal glass and she oozes class from every pore... Shearer combines modern freshness with old-school attention to quality and the results are spectacular." Listen:
